Its just a quick walk from the apartment. Their focaccia is a must try and is my favorite. Get there early for a larger selection of tasty treats. They are unfortunately closed on Monday and Sunday.

This local market is less than 5 blocks from the apartment. Besides being a grocery store they have a cafe that serves asian food, pizza, and a rotating selection of hot meals like lasagna and roasted chicken. They also have a coffee shop the serves some of the best locally roasted coffee.

Besides being a grocery store they have a cafe that serves asian food, pizza, and a rotating selection of hot meals like lasagna and roasted chicken. This place has amazing views, tasty food, and award winning craft beer. Make a reservation to avoid long waits as it is a local favorite.

They also have open bar seating that has a happy hour menu, but the full restaurant menu can be ordered from your table in the bar.

They do not take reservations but they do provide their menu for pick up orders. Not only do they have amazing pizza but they have great salads and local craft beer.

This place has two restaurants and a bargain price theater under one roof. What? Yes, you read that right. One side is a Mexican influenced restaurant with a bar. The other side (theater side) serves Moose's Tooth pizza, salads and beer, in addition to Mexican fair. This side also provides food and beverages for theater goers watching movies in the bargain theater.

The best fried local caught shrimp and halibut in Alaska. This wonderful restaurant is located in Whittier. It is about a 1.5 hour drive south to the Whittier tunnel entrance. You may have a bit of a wait at the tunnel before they allow traffic to drive the one way road through it to Whittier. If your don't want to bother with driving you can take the train to Whittier.

A paved trail along the water and train tracks. It follows the Cook Inlet coastline from West Chester Lagoon to Kincade Park. The start of this trail located at the West Chester Lagoon is less than a half mile from the apartment.

They have many local events and festivals hosted on the Delaney Park Strip. In the summer a free weekly yoga class is offered to the public. There is a rose garden located on the most western block, and tennis courts and volleyball courts located several blocks away on its most eastern block.

In the summer they have the park's garden beds planted with a lovely array of ornamental flower, most notable is the dahlia bed. They also host public events here such as free concerts.

The zoo houses many Alaskan animals who were injured and could not be released. In the spring and summer there are always baby bears and moose temporarily stopping in.

This is a great place to go hiking and mountain biking on well marked wide gravel trails. They also have a wonderful frisbee golf course. There are plenty of moose in the park and a drive out there might get you a glimpse of one. In the summer its advisable to bring some bear spray with you, but its not likely you will even get to see any bears even from a distance. In the winter this park has world class cross country ski trails.

In the summer its advisable to bring some bear spray with you, but its not likely you will even get to see any bears even from a distance. In the winter this park has world class cross country ski trails.
Go there an hour or two before high tide to view belugas chasing salmon and hooligan swimming for the rivers that empty into the Turnigan Arm. Added bonus is you will likely see dall sheep on the mountains/cliffs directly next to the road. It is a 30-45 minute drive from the apartment. This portion of the Seward Highway is incredibly scenic with or without the sheep or belugas. If you want to make a day of it I suggest going to the wildlife

Seward HighwayGo there an hour or two before high tide to view belugas chasing salmon and hooligan swimming for the rivers that empty into the Turnigan Arm. Added bonus is you will likely see dall sheep on the mountains/cliffs directly next to the road. It is a 30-45 minute drive from the apartment. This portion of the Seward Highway is incredibly scenic with or without the sheep or belugas. If you want to make a day of it I suggest going to the wildlife

Un like the zoo they have herds of bison, muskox, caribou. The photo opportunities here are fantastic. The hour it will take you to drive here is totally worth it.
This is a great challenging hike. It has a ton of vertical and a boulder patch at the top to scramble up. The Anchorage views from the top are magnificent. If you aren't interested in doing the hike up the mountain there is an outlook several yards from the parking lot, and/or you could opt for a less strenuous hike up Powerline Pass which also has a trail head here.

This is a great challenging hike. It has a ton of vertical and a boulder patch at the top to scramble up. The Anchorage views from the top are magnificent. If you aren't interested in doing the hike up the mountain there is an outlook several yards from the parking lot, and/or you could opt for a less strenuous hike up Powerline Pass which also has a trail head here.
This is a great hike for all ages. The trail takes you through a lush sitka spruce rainforest. It is located about a mile drive from Anchorage in the town of Aleyeska.
