unique Distinctive Asian-style palace built for King George IV, with restored rooms, gardens and tours. The Royal Pavilion, also known as the Brighton Pavilion, is a Grade I listed[1] former royal residence located in Brighton, England. Beginning in 1787, it was built in three stages as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, who became the Prince Regent in 1811. It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style prevalent in India for most of the 19th century. The current appearance of the Pavilion, with its domes and minarets, is the work of architect John Nash, who extended the building starting in 1815 The Prince of Wales, who later became George IV, first visited Brighton in 1783, at the age of 21. The seaside town had become fashionable as a result of the residence of George's uncle, Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland, whose tastes for fine cuisine, gambling, the theatre, and general fast living the young prince shared, and with whom he lodged in Brighton at Grove House. In addition, the Prince of Wales was advised by his physician that the seawater and fresh air would be beneficial for his gout. In 1786, under a financial cloud with investigation by Parliament for the extravagances incurred in building Carlton House, London, the Prince rented a modest, erstwhile farmhouse facing the Old Steine, a grassy area of Brighton used as a promenade by visitors. Remote from the Royal Court in London, the Pavilion was a discreet location for the Prince to enjoy private liaisons with his long-time companion, Maria Fitzherbert. The Prince had wished to marry her, and did so in secrecy as her Roman Catholic religion prohibited his marrying her under the Royal Marriages Act 1772.

Pro: some great views from the pier and from the restaurant half way up... A stunning piece of history Con: BUT, it a tourist trap.. Pro: its free to go on and has a good gift shop (my friends place:) Con: Over priced low quality food, Pro: has free deckchairs and picnic areas. You may take you own food. You are allowed to take soft drinks and picnic stuff. Pop in the supermarket on the way. (hide your wine etc Con: no dogs Rides are very overpriced so check out any rides deals.. normally £20 for a unlimited rides wrist band, but check out the website first. The rides might close randomly due to lack of customers, and wrist bands wont be refunded. It closes a lot earlier than you might expect. closing times vary daily due to the amount of money being spent on the day. Even though the gates are open, everything may be closed. If you are a family its gonna cost you. Pro: great place for sunset. Pro/Con: Hilarious seagull attacks :}

this is not a venue to rush to... but it is the last strong hold of ungentrified Brighton. if you want to buy food or eat something good, have a wonder along the london road. Charity shops galore and then the market

If you want an ice cream or a toasty, I really recommend heading down to the World famous pump room opposite the Grand Hotel. They do huge toasted sandwiches, made with Brightons Real patisserie bread. Fruit smoothies,fresh Squeezed orange juice and really good ice cream along with coffee etc. The best thing is it's almost half the price of everywhere else on the beach, it's slightly set back from the main drag, and is non pretentious so tends not to attract sheep. It's a bit of a sun trap and sheltered from the wind, but has shade if its hot. Can be a haven on a blustery cold day. Many locals sit there with their dogs and bicycles. It's close to the volleyball which doubles as a sandpit for children when when not in use.

I love Ephesus for some mezze and grilled lamb. The mezze platter number one great. Some of the portions of quite big so I'd recommend not all ordering a main if you are not very hungry. If possible give yourself at least 90 minutes here, and order in stages. The salad can be disappointing but it comes free. The place and staff is very relaxed. Very Turkish
