Places in the valley to hike and walk

The landscape in the Connecticut river valley is awe-inspiring. Farm fields, rivers, quaint little towns, mountains and forests deck the landscape in abundance. This allows for some excellent hiking with exquisite views. (Thanks to co-host Sophie for sharing her artwork to showcase our beautiful town and valley https://www.etsy.com/shop/SophieTherouxArtist).
Take a stroll through one of the most beautiful campuses in New England about 15-minute walking distance away. Paradise Pond (pictured above) connects to the Mill River and there is a walking path behind the two buildings pictured here that follows the Mill River for one of the most tranquil walking experiences in the area.

This is a park on top of Mount Holyoke, with grassy lawns, picnic tables, and a beautiful white summit house that overlooks the valley and can be seen from downtown Northampton. It can get buggy up here but it is a must-see, surreal place to come on sunny summer days.

The top of Mount Sugarloaf presents an iconic view of the valley (pictured above). The mountain is located in Sunderland and there is a road to the top. It’s a steep hike that takes about 30 minutes, but the 360 views are worth every step!

Restaurants Around Town

Of all the towns in this area, Northampton just might be the most well-known for its abundance of excellent restaurants. Here are just a few special places for you to consider. Not on list, but one of my favorites is Bela Vegetarian on Masonic Street.
Bombay Royale is right down the street and takes just three minutes to walk to. They have amazing Indian Food. They have nice wines. We can recommend the Chicken Tikki Masala and the Chicken Korma! Actually, we haven’t had a bad dish.

There are beautiful art galleries downtown and great places to see music. The Iron Horse Music Hall is one of my favorites. Check out the summer schedule! Pearl Street is another great music hall – both walking distance from the apartment.
