The best part of Osterøy is the space, the views, the endless network of trails leading you to breathtaking peaks and the fjord, which completely surrounds the island. We will help you find the activities that fit your needs the best. This area is still undiscovered by the crowds of tourists visiting Bergen, so you don’t have to walk in a line, or wait for your turn to get the best photos.
Bruviknipa is by many considered the finest mountain in the entire area around Bergen.
Free parking at the starting point: "Båtaleitet"
Follow the well-worn trail starting from the parking lot. Fairly quickly the trail starts to ascend up the hill through the forest. When you reach the top of the first hill you will arrive at a trail junction and a small pond. Turn left in this junction and head up towards the peak. Follow the yellow markers all the way up. As you leave the forest behind the trails gets steeper before you reach the peak of Bruviknipa.

The trail is quite steep a few places, but rewards you with great views the whole trip. The closest trailhead is where you park your car at Sofiahuset :)

Drive along the fjord past beautiful Bruvik and see the most dramatic parts of Osterøy. Free, large parking at Båtaleitet, 16km from Sofiahuset. Several trails start here. To get to your starting point, cross the main road and follow the signs towards Rispingen.

Tvindefossen waterfall is one of the regions most beautiful waterfalls. It is easy to find, as it is located very close to the main road E16.
The many-stranded waterfall, usually said to be 152 m high, but likely only 110 m, is formed by a small stream, the Kroelvi, tumbling over a receding cliff. It is famous for its beauty. Buses sometimes stop for people to admire it.
In addition, in the late 1990s the water at Tvindefossen acquired a reputation for rejuvenation and revival of sexual potency that made it one of the most important natural tourist attractions in western Norway, with as many as 200,000 people a year from the U.S., Japan and Russia visiting and filling containers with the water.
At one point it was Norway's ninth most visited natural attraction, with 272,000 visitors.

Stalheim hotel is woth visiting even without spending the night. If you walk around to the front of the hotel, you can enjoy a truly spectacular view over the Nærøydalen valley, and the characteristic peak of Jordalsnuten.
Stalheim hotel is also the starting point of many popular hikes in the area.
Continue the road that goes down on the left side of the hotel to Stalheimskleiva.

Continue the road that goes down on the left side of the hotel to Stalheimskleiva.

The Prestegardsmoen Recreational and Nature Reserve extends south from Voss Camping in a series of hiking tracks through elm, birch and pine forests with hundreds of species of plants and birds.
By the time you get here, it might be time for dinner. Find a local cafe (check out "tre brør" or "cafe stationen" in the centre of Voss).
After dinner, enjoy the nice walk through Prestegardsmoen. Find the bridge at the other end of the park, and cross it.
Continue signs towards "Bordalsgjelet".

Here you can experience an impressive view of the potholes that have been formed by the ice and river over a period of many thousands of years. Always remember to keep to the marked trails for your own safety!
After visiting the gorge, return to your car. It is probably time to head home to Sofias house.

From the town centre you follow the gravel path alongside Vangsvatnet lake towards Prestegardsmoen. Cross the bridge over the river Vosso at the end of Prestegardsmoen. Turn right after the bridge and follow Russarvegen road along the river. The road is marked all the way to Bordalsgjelet.

Take the opportunity while in Bergen, to taste some Norwegian delicacies.
From sweet treats like wild berries, waffles and brown cheese, to savory reindeer-, moose- and lamb dishes, prepared by some of the world´s best cooks. And not to forget: Fresh king crab, salmon and the famous Atlantic "skrei" cod. Enjoy both the new and the traditional flavors of Norway.
You will find many of these fresh ingredients in the everyday Norwegian kitchen, and with so many goodies at our disposal, it’s not surprising that the new big trend is to prepare our meals from scratch. In restaurants, Norwegian dishes of good quality , is expensive, even for us Norwegians. But believe me, you get what you pay for.
Most of the restaurants I recommend, require a reservation. Make sure to book a table early if you'd like to visit during summer season.

It is situated right by the sea on a small island with spectacular views of the fjord, mountains, skerries and passing boats and ships.
BOAT TRIP
Experience a beautiful trip among the skerries, from Bryggen wharf in the City of Bergen to Holmen at Bjorøy. Regular departures at 18.00 from Dreggekaien on Bryggen (shed no. 8) opposite Radisson Blu Royal Hotel and Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret.
Return from Holmen at 22.30. The boat trip takes 25 minutes.
