Ciudad Vieja (Old City) is the tourism center of the city and for good reason it's beautiful! It won't take you very long though one day is enough. Walk down Sarandi street starting at the Puerta de la Ciudadela (entrance to Ciudad Vieja). From there you will pass may courtyards, restaurants, cafes, gift shops, and art galleries. Make sure to look up, the architecture is stunning in that part of the city.

Very close to our home, this is a great starting place to begin your walk to Ciudad Vieja (old city). Although not the most direct, this plaza walks you past the courthouse of Uruguay. If you cross the street they often feature photos of this plaza through the ages, as it has always been a center for the city. Make sure to stop by the Mercado de Los Artesanos (Craftsmen Market) next to the square to pick up some very special souvenirs.
