Food Scene

Port Side staff are personable, super-plugged into the neighborhood, and make great coffee. They serve beer/wine and a limited alcohol selection too. Their food options are limited, but very healthy. Plus their patio is pretty dope for a small coffee house. Oh! And the signage is legit, every day : ).

Their ever-changing happy hour drink menu always startles me, but also prompts me to try something new. The bartenders are also real mixologists (from what I've seen), in that if they're trying a new drink, they try it 5 different ways and will ask you your opinion! Sure way to get the afternoon off to the right start too!

This has a fish market, chocolatier, small vegetable/fruit selection, and bakery, ice cream, coffee, and butcher shop. Plus a bar and several stores that serve food. It's super central to RiNo and is a great stop if you want something healthier than fast food, but not as long as a full restaurant experience. Each shop has prepared food - the fish market = ceviche and more; butchers shop = classic meaty sandwiches, bakery = breakfast and scones and cake and GOODNESS. You get the picture. If you want high-end ingredients/don't mind paying a premium, it's a great stop for several essentials to a meal, which you can bring back and cook at the house too!

While 'The Populist' is closed on Mondays (beware!), it's a really fabulous gastro joint that has a romantic out-doors area. Not as expensive as some of the high-end restaraunts in Denver, it's still on multiple 'must eat' lists in 5280, Denver's local Magazine.

If you're going to use the light rail, consider walking over about 20 minutes early and up to 'Purple Door Coffee,' which hires, supports, and trains the homeless that are committed to changing their lives. It's a great little cafe with an incredibly impactful mission. Plus, you can feel good about the community you're supporting : ).

Don't want the long lines of Snooze and Syrup? This breakfast joint is a short jaunt away and supports a local business owner. The food is healthy and eclectic, if a little limited. They also make their own cashew milk and have a lunch menu an patio as well.

Spangalang is this interesting bar I stumbled on while taking a Russian exchange business leader to find a local couch surfer meet-up (sound strange enough for you??). But it seemed fun, kind of undiscovered, and tucked away in a weird corner. They also have games, trivia, a patio, and open at noon -- so if you're wanting to get an early Brewery Start, this is one place you can go : ).

Rosenberg's is like, the BEST jewish bagel joint in Denver. It burned down a couple years ago and just opened back up. People loose their bananas waiting in line for this stuff. They're also fast and it's a great post-hangover remedy for some : ). I'm obsessed with the 'Heart Attack' and 'Frenchie' -- Mazel Tov!

Most anything here can be made VEGAN or Vegetarian and it's AWESOME food. There's a bit of a wait though, so be prepared and order a coffee, check out the high-end piercing place or cupcake shop, the alley with the artwalk, etc. It's open super late (2 am?) and I'm actually getting hungry just thinking about their savory waffles and vegan wings (*drool*). If you're checking out the capital (it's 1 of 2 state capitals in the US with goal leaf on the exterior), then it's just a quick walk. And it's close to the Denver Art Museum too. Also pretty LGBTQ friendly : ).

This is a really incredible restaurant that focuses on seafood. The menu rotates often, the drinks are unique, and it's inside of Union Station. So while you're waiting for your table, you can go upstairs to this little known bar. I have no idea what the name is, but go up the stairs before you enter the restaurant (from inside); it's lined with small, black and white photographs. Then turn right towards the balcony overlooking the first story. This place is almost never busy and the view as you look at the sun setting, mountains, and beautifully renovated station is unique. Plus they give you these free, heated nuts that remind me of United's first class. I love it! *Ahem* Cheers!

This is some of the best Southern breakfast (and breakfast in general) in Denver. They have another location a bit further south, but each place will have a wait. Go grab a coffee, mimosa, bloody Mary, or beignet (So Goooood) from the bar while you wait. It's worth it. Then recover with a nap, because Dayyyyuuuum.

This place just opened and is supposed to be one of February's 'Top Restaurants' to go to : ). I went, I ate, it was FAB. The Pony Boy cocktail (vodka based) has some unusual ingredients, but if that's your thang, getttttt it -- can't go wrong!

Drinks & Nightlife

This is kind of an 'upscale' hole in the wall that not many people have discovered. The have trendy (if odd) art and a really eclectic decorator : ). They have a couple outdoor seats too, which are great and accessible almost year-round. HOWEVER, their drinks are Strong, never get a margarita (unless you want to drink glass cleaner), and know that beer is your friend. It's a fun place to start out the evening without crowds.

Large patio, DJ with small dance floor, wide selection of drinks, and a PHOTO BOOTH -- ummm, need I say more? This is a great place on the edge of RiNo and I'm excited to see the neighborhood develop up-to and around it.

Parks & Nature

This is a short hike you can do in summer or winter. It's like 45 minutes, really high altitude (**remember to drink water at least a liter**), and thus is accessible to most people with great views. I've even taken my dog while it was snowing in February.
