Parks & Nature

National Trust owned Cave Dale has stunning rugged scenery. Excellent for hill walking and intrepid mountain bikers. Peveril Castle towers above the valley (please note the castle cannot be reached from the Cave Dale footpath). Sheep are grazed around the year and so it's advised dogs please remain on leads. The footpath to the valley entrance is located opposite the sign for Pindale Road, just off Castleton village market place.

The visitors centre is run by the National Park Authority and provides an excellent information point with friendly staff. There is also a visitors shop, spacious cafe and a museum that includes all things Castleton.

Mam Tor commands spectacular views over the Hope Valley. The remains of a Roman Hill Fort is located on top of the hill and the 'Ridgeway walk' can be taken from here. There is often a fantastic cloud inversion visible from here early in the morning.

Nearest railway station, around half an hours walk to Castleton. A bus also runs along the main road to Castleton. The bus stop is located across the road from the Station Road junction.
