An institution. Classic Route 1 diner with cabins out back. Been there forever, beloved by millions, so try to avoid busy times. Baseball lore: Ted Williams visited often with famed sports scribe Bud Leavitt, on hunting trips. And Clyde Sukeforth (Brooklyn Dodger and Jackie Robinson scout) lived here in Waldoboro.

Wharfside dining and country store at Monhegan ferry landing. Proprietor: Linda Bean, of the LL Bean family. Easy trip by boat, do-able by kayak. Great for fried seafood fix, though we'd like to have a word with Linda about the Miracle Whip on the lobster roll. Seriously, props for authenticity, because Miracle Whip really is a thing around here, like Moxie soda, but much like Moxie, it's an acquired taste.
