There are a lot of pizza places nearby, but none as yummy as Villagios! Their garlic knots are delicious, too! Order for take out or dine in--they get busy, so be sure to get there before the rush!

Parks & Nature

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this park demonstrates the evolution of Florida farming from the 1850s to the mid-1940s-through three generations of the Dudley family. An authentic working farm, the homestead consists of 18 buildings, including the family farmhouse with original furnishings, an 1880s kitchen outbuilding, a general store and post office, and a functional cane syrup complex. Park staff in period clothing perform daily chores, raise crops and tend to livestock. The farm features seasonal cane grindings, corn shuckings and heritage varieties of livestock and plants. Deer, wild turkeys, gopher tortoises and bluebirds are still seen in the fields.

The Ichetucknee River flows six miles through shaded hammocks and wetlands before it joins the Santa Fe River. In 1972, the head spring of the river was declared a National Natural Landmark by the U. S. Department of the Interior. From the end of May until early September, tubing down the river is the premier activity in the area. In addition to tubing, visitors can enjoy picnicking, snorkeling, canoeing, swimming, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Scuba diving is available daily in the Blue Hole only (you MUST be Cave Certified). Picnic areas, equipped with tables and grills, are available throughout the park. A full-service concession offers food, refreshments, and outdoor products.

One of Florida's first state parks, O'Leno State Park was first developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The park is located along the banks of the scenic Santa Fe River, a tributary of the Suwannee River, and features sinkholes, hardwood hammocks, river swamps and sandhills. The river disappears underground and reemerges over three miles away in River Rise Preserve State Park. Visitors can enjoy a day of hiking or biking on the park’s shaded trails. The Santa Fe River is a beautiful spot to launch a canoe or try your hand at fishing along its banks. Pavilions are available. At River Rise, equestrians, hikers and "fat tire" cyclists can explore over 35 miles of trails.

The first-magnitude spring at this park produces an average of 100 million gallons of clear, cool water daily. In winter, West Indian manatees swim upriver to the warmer waters of the springs. Popular for snorkeling and scuba diving, the headwaters of the spring are also a great spot for swimming. The spring run forms a sparkling stream that meanders through hardwood wetlands to the Suwannee River. Canoeing and kayaking is available all year round through the concessionaire. Children enjoy the playground in the picnic area. Hiking and bicycling are available on the north end trail system. The full-facility campground is surrounded by red oak woods.

Otter Springs Park and Campground is a beautiful campground in an old oak forest with lots of shade but a few open RV sites as well. There are 636 acres most of which are forest and wetlands with miles of trails, a mile long spring run to the Suwannee River and lots of birds and animals to enjoy. If the spring feels too chilly to swim you can enjoy our indoor heated pool. There's plenty to do to keep busy but lots of time and quiet to kick back and relax as well.

This is a unique experience! The most common species living here is the Brazilian free-tailed bat, Tadarida brasiliensis. The Southeastern bat, Myotis austroriparius, and Evening bat, Nycticeius humeralis, also live in the structures.

Paynes Prairie is biologically, geologically and historically unique. This park became Florida´s first state preserve in 1971 and is now designated as a National Natural Landmark. Noted artist and naturalist William Bartram called it the great Alachua Savannah when he wrote about his visit to the prairie in 1774. Eight trails provide opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and bicycling, including the 16 mile long, paved Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail. Fishing on Lake Wauburg is allowed and a boat ramp provides access for canoes and boats with electric motors. Gasoline powered boats are not allowed. Annual special events include Stargazing Party, Paynes Prairie 5K, and Fire Fest.

This is a great place to have a few drinks (or not!) and enjoy the dueling pianists! They take song requests, tell jokes and it's a great time for a fun night out!

Micanopy, Florida was voted one of the "12 Cutest Small Towns in America" by the Huffington Post! The town center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contains a number of antique stores, as well as several restaurants. Micanopy hosts a large arts festival every autumn featuring many local (and distant) artists. The festival brings in a crowd much larger than the town's population from across Payne's Prairie in Gainesville and surrounding areas. The festival, which is set on the towns main street, offers more than art. There is kettle corn, honey, and many different varieties of food. Of course art work, hand crafted gifts, handmade jewelry are present.
