To describe this place as just a 'bar' does it a grave injustice! Its a beautiful old style pub. Atmosphere authentic to the core. Reputed to have the best whiskey selection in town. Music if you are lucky

We recommend Taaffes as a pub where one could go and listen to some very good Irish music. We went and it was excellent. Lots of travelers want to hear some good local music and you will get it here. Musicians gather there about 5:30 each afternoon and jam for a couple of hours.

The sandy beach here stretches as far as the eye can see and is ideal for a spot of swimming or windsurfing. You can also venture out into the Atlantic for an excursion to Inishmurray Island or a sea angling trip. If you’re more of a landlubber, there’s plenty here for you too. Lissadell is famous as the childhood home of Constance Markievicz, her sister Eva Gore-Booth and her brother Josslyn Gore-Booth. Constance was one of the leaders of the 1916 Rising, and was the first woman to be elected to Dáil Eireann, where she served as Minister for Labour (thus becoming the first woman minister in a modern Western European democracy), The restoration of this historic Estate is something to behold. The house tour is a wonderful insight into a different era
