These folks import their flour from Italy, and did specialty training to learn exactly how to make the best wood-fired pizza. The dough process takes two days! Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights "until the dough runs out." Check their facebook page for more details!

They have desserts, and breakfast pastries, and serve a great lunch too! Be prepared to take your time here (speed is not in the vocabulary, but super pleasant folks and good food are). On Friday nights, they often have live music.

BEST BREAKFAST! Forget it on a Sunday morning, the wait can be two hours long! Everything is farm fresh and sourced locally. Main Street, Chattanooga has seen such a major revitalization in recent years -- you can park here and check out a number of cute shops, catch the trolley and head downtown for more fun, shop for pottery, artwork, take cooking classes nearby, have some fresh made goods from Niedlov's or Main Street Meats, antiques over at Antiques on Main, or walk over to some Sound Immersion Therapy just down the street. Also close to Jefferson Park, good place to let the kids burn off a little energy while you sip some local coffee from VELO or Niedlov's.

If you like a little class, this is your spot for a drink, or one of the nicest Sunday brunch options in the area. I think this was once the original Coca Cola building eaaaarly in its days. The Aquarium is right across the street. Don't park in the Aquarium Republic lot, for whatever reason it is at least $4 more to park there.

This place is soooo easy to accidentally drive right by -- but it's one of our favorite Italian places. It's small, quaint, hidden, classy and we are picky picky about Italian food, as we love to cook it ourselves and know what it should taste like. Highly recommend.

If you follow us on Instagram, you'll know from the Stories tab that we are here often. We leave a little of their tea at Oakleaf for you to sample, because the mixes Hillary comes up with smell like heaven! This is such a great place to curl up with a book, engage in plant discussions, learn a new skill from new friends such as crochet, knitting, weaving, embroidery and more -- lots of locals come here just to relax for an hour and work a little home craft.

St Elmo is such a quaint little spot -- we include a Day Trip intinerary at the Cottage that includes stopping here, heading up the Incline Railway, visiting Point Park and Rock City, then coming back down the Incline for lunch at 1885, Ice cream from across the street, or Mojo Burrito for a family friendly option.

Drinks & Nightlife

So, a little history for you: back in 2012, a new restaurant named Terra Mae was started here, and I (Cris) was the designer. So, I love this building and its fabulous Civil War history and old limestone walls. It has changed hands and names since, but Matilda Midnight offers an unusual vibe far removed from my style and some interesting cocktails. Behind the history museum on 10th Street there's generally streetside parking all of a block away.

So, we aren't late night people -- we prefer to drink at home and make fancy cocktails there (if you find our website, we're launching some of our fave cocktail recipes on the blog). But -- these folks can make a good drink, the wine menu is as fantastic as the food menu, and if you get the waitress with the blond braid, you'll have the best server ever.

Sightseeing

Many people claim that the Tennessee Aquarium is better than Atlanta's Georgia Aquarium. We are inclined to agree. Two buildings -- the original is all freshwater, and the new building is entirely saltwater, and begins with a butterfly conservatory on the top floor, slowly bringing you down to the deeps of ocean life as you descend.

Yes, it's touristy -- but go! The cave is neat, the waterfall beautiful, the history interesting. Bonus: if it's raining or cold out, this place is the same temp year round, and dry (except the waterfall, of course).

We love walking here! We often park on the NorthShore near Coolidge Park (which is huge by the way). There are a number of restaurants and cute shops on Fraiser Avenue, and you can learn a few dance steps along the way, as they are plated in brass along Frasier Ave. The walking bridge is one of the oldest in Chatty, grab some ice cream on the South side, and go across the glass bridge toward the Hunter Museum to pick up the Riverwalk -- there's some interesting local artist sculptures nearby to look at, Rembrandt Coffee is a beautiful nighttime stop for coffee and a scone, and Tony's Trattoria is a good spot for dinner. We can recommend the Back Inn Cafe for dinner or breakfast as well.

Some say you can see seven states from here. Some say that's not true. In any case, if you're a Civil War buff this is a neat spot to check out, and the view is definitely cool.

For a small spot, and a town that is just starting to emerge as a hot spot for culture, we are starting to see some surprising acts and talent come through. This building is stunning inside! If you go to a concert, you'll want to get seats closer to the middle or balcony.

Parks & Nature

Right next door! It's the busiest state park in Georgia. We have maps in the Cottage binder and if you love to hike, check one of the other trailheads nearby rather than the main one. Only two trails lead to the waterfalls - Gulch (cut through the neighborhood below Oakleaf Cottage) and the main entrance. The parking pass is $5 from any trailhead. Nickajack and Ascalon trailheads are not far from the Cottage either.

OK you are going to think we are crazy at first, but this doesn't come up on a map. Go to Soddy Daisy and ask a local how to get to Blue Hole. This is where the locals go to swim on a hot day -- if you keep hiking, you may find a section of the stream with an unoccupied swimming hole to have all to yourselves!
