-Grab a poke bowl at times and cruise to the beach. Poke is a local staple. Fresh cubed ahi and you choose your sauce. YUM, it may sound weird, but if you love fish, def try it! They also have plate lunches that are really good and a great deal! Kim Chee cucumbers are one of our beach day staples. A little spicy, super delicious!

-Haleiwa Joes in Kaneohe is top of our list for nearby dinner. They've got delicious fresh seafood on the menu daily and a great selection overall. My gosh, I'm trying to think of my fav thing but we always try the specials and they've been terrific. It's a nicer place, so you'll want to clean up before you go. *No reservations *Try and go before it's dark out, such a beautiful setting!

Beaches
You're in luck, we've got a few of those around here ;) Let's talk favorites!
Rated one of the best beaches in the world and it's just a few miles away. The shades of blue you see are indescribable and endless! The water here is the most calm of the beaches in Kailua. *Parking is tight, heads up! *Great beach for children *Sunset and sunrise are especially beautiful! *Pillbox hike is just up the road and overlooks the entire east side. Easy 1 mi hike, jump in the water after. *You can rent a kayak on the way. Kayak to the twin islands for a fun adventure! *No restrooms here

This is one of our fav beaches on the island! Super gorgeous, beautiful drive in, large and vast beach. It's more off the beaten path and is more a local beach. *Usually good for bodyboarding, this beach is usually a bit wavy. *If you're there at night, you'll see tons of sand crabs ;)

Our home beach and it's surely a beauty! It's great for swimming or renting a kayak or SUP. Not a surf beach, but sometimes there are small swells off flat island. *You can walk from Kailua boat ramp past Kalama beach on the same strip. I believe it's about 2 miles *Has bathrooms and showers *Great for children *Great for kite boarding too in the section called 'kite beach' *Weekday parking is easy, weekends the locals pile in!

If you want to take a drive out west, they really have the most incredible open strip of beaches on the island. It ends up with this one, we like to call Yoks. Of all the beaches we've listed, this is the least populated one and is the most untouched. *1.5 hr drive to get there *Stop at mermaid caves on the way for a cool scenic little cave *Mostly locals *Beautiful scenery

This spot is super cool but please be mindful. The eastside beauty is unreal and you'll get a good taste of it if you go here! It's a cove, you have to climb down the rocks to get to it. *Go at your own risk!! *Not recommended for children *Great for swimming if the waves are low *Beautiful scenery *No bathroom

This one has great views all the way up! It overlooks Kailua and the entire eastside. You can stop at the first one or keep walking to the second or third! This trail is becoming more popular, you'll prob see quite a few people along the way. *To the first pillbox its about a mile. *The beginning of the Pillbox hike is also the most difficult, with a super steep hill and loose dirt *Jump in the ocean after, the beach is right down the road :) *Some ridges, be careful with children

Awesome Falls hike nearby! This is overall a pretty easy hike but it's 2 miles to the falls and you'll walk over streams and sometimes through the mud! *Wear shoes, I wore flip flops the first time and that was not so fun ;) *Falls are awesome! You can jump in! *Be observant to the trail, we took a long route once that seemed to take 2x longer *Kid friendly

This is a popular hike for both locals and tourists. It looks just like the pictures and is a straight shot up wooden steps to kokohead crater. The views are incredible! *1048 steps *Scared of heights? Me too! I like doing this one for a good workout but it still freaks me out a bit. *Close to hanauma bay, cool snorkel spot *Lots of kids do this one, be careful can be steep in certain spots.

If you're a history person, this is pretty incredible. My husbands father was laying on the beach in Waikiki and saw Japanese pilots flying so low he could see their faces. They were getting bombed and the island was forever changed. I'd recommend going, you won't forget it.

We LOVE this farmers market! Its Thursday evening 4-7pm in the longs parking lot. There's lots of fresh produce, island eats, local music, fresh squeezed lemonade, and more.
