“Just outside the city gate of Valletta lies the Hastings public garden. From here majestic views over Sliema, Floriana and Manoel Island unfold. The name of the garden comes from Marquis of Hastings, who was a governor of Malta. He died in 1827 and is buried in the garden.”

City
“Our capital city built in just 2 years by the Knights of St John. It’s purpose at the time was to defend Malta (and this Europe) from the several Turk Invasions. Surrounded by majestic bastions and dotted with beautiful Auberges it also has the most beautiful natural harbour in the world ”

“Da Pippo on Melita Street is legendary, and so popular with locals that booking is a must. Only open for lunch, they do all the Mediterranean classics, but go with what they recommend on the day. Noisy and chaotic, this is a real Valletta experience.”

“This quirky little bar overflows on the street at weekends, especially in summer. Get there early for one of the pink velvet armchairs in the alley outside. Tico Tico is a less seedy reincarnation of the original bar (of the same name) on this site that until the 1970s entertained sailors with drinks, floor shows and other services. Strait Street used to be known as 'The Gut' and was full of sailors' bars. After the Royal Navy left Malta, the area fell into dereliction. Tico Tico was one of the first in a new breed of places there.”

“Fort Saint Elmo is a star fort in Valletta, Malta. It stands on the seaward shore of the Sciberras Peninsula that divides Marsamxett Harbour from Grand Harbour, and commands the entrances to both harbours along with Fort Tigné and Fort Ricasoli. It is best known for its role in the Great Siege of Malta of 1565. Just been restored to its former glory.”

“The National Museum of Archaeology is housed in the Auberge de Provence, an example of fine Baroque architecture, that was built in 1571, on plans by local architect Ġilormu Cassar. Of particular note is the Grand Salon, with its richly painted walls and wooden beamed ceiling. The Museum exhibits a spectacular range of artefacts dating back to Malta’s Neolithic period (5000 BC) up to the Phoenician Period (400 BC). Highlights include the ‘Sleeping Lady’ , the ‘Venus of Malta', bronze daggers, the Horus & Anubis pendant and the anthropomorphic sarcophagus, both belonging to the Phoenician period. A real must see!”
