Birdwatching for Beginners in Beautiful West Sonoma County
No binoculars? No problem! We've got you covered with quality binoculars and a high-powered spotting scope to bring those birds up close! We want to help beginners get out and appreciate the bird world. Don't be shy if you've never birded before - that's what we're here for! (All experience levels are welcome though.) You'll meet us for a slow meander along Sonoma County's bucolic West County Regional Trail in Sebastopol. There, we'll look at, listen to, and identify a variety of songbirds, woodpeckers, raptors, and much more. Time allowing, we’ll walk 1 mile to a water treatment pond for a chance to see some duck species before birding our way back (a flat, paved 2-mile roundtrip). We’ll send you home with a paper checklist of the species we observed throughout our walk. And, if you're on eBird, we will share the day's checklist with you. We guarantee you'll leave with an increased appreciation of the bird life that surrounds us! If there are any specific birding skills you'd like to focus on improving (visual ID, birding by ear, etc.), let us know and we'll be happy to tailor the walk to your interests. If you don’t see a time that fits your schedule, or if you're a group larger than 6, contact us and we’ll try to accommodate you! PLEASE NOTE: There are no restrooms at this location.
Private Pottery Wheel Lesson
After being introduced to the space and to each other, I will provide a quick demonstration on the wheel with a small amount of clay. Afterwards, each guest will be allowed time to create a piece on the wheel from beginning to end with personal instruction and assistance from me. Guests are welcome to make anything they would like to on the wheel! Cup, bowl, vase, dish, etc. (Please Read)The firing of pottery is a long process that is separate from the time we spend on the wheel. Each piece requires a two day long firing process in a kiln, and I hand glaze each piece. I offer kiln services out of my personal studio if you have interest in having your piece fired for a *small fee that is not due the day of the experience.* I do not include this in the price of the experience because some guests do not wish to keep their piece. Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting some clay on. Clay will wash out, but you may not want to go out right after. The time noted on the experience, 2 hours, is generally descriptive of a 2 person experience which encompasses the majority of my bookings. In general, the experience is 1 hour per person. If there are 3 or 4 people in the booking, likely the experience will extend the 2 hour session time, and if there is 1 person in the booking it will be closer to an hour.

You will have the opportunity to be hands-on with virtually all of these dishes, learning good technique by doing it once you see the proper way demonstrated to you. Bohemian Redwoods Hike
A visit to our own private redwood grove. Locked away in a private family trust for over one hundred years and located on the grounds of a private camp from the 1800s, sits the Bohemian Redwoods. This special property is located not far off the Bohemian highway in west Sonoma near the Russian river at the border of Camp Meeker and Monte Rio. Our property is adjacent to over 500 acres of redwoods donated to the county of Sonoma in 2020. You will have the unique opportunity to chill on our property, featuring acres of redwoods, hear a little history, and then access a 2 mile hiking loop onto Sonoma County Park land, directly adjacent to our land. This is a once in a lifetime venue, adjacent to world class hiking. Hiking is medium challenge - some relatively steep and windy climbs, but definitely doable for a beginner or first timer.
Oyster Shucking Class
We’ll meet and have a nice chat about the different types of shellfish we offer. Then we’ll get into how to shuck an oyster, with some hands on practice! I’ll also give you my tips and tricks for purchasing, storing, preparing, cooking, and serving these tasty mollusks! There will be plenty of time left over for you to enjoy some oysters on the half shell at the end and also to answer any remaining questions you might have.
Guided Russian River Kayak Tour
Our Sonoma Coast Kayak Tour takes you to the edge of the beautiful Pacific Ocean where we paddle the Russian River as it meets the sea. Birds, seals, and a fantastic paddle are just some of the highlights of this great day on the water. We meet in the small coastal village of Jenner where your guide will give a brief safety and paddling instruction before beginning the paddle. We spend 2-2.5 hours exploring the beautiful Jenner estuary keeping our eyes open for Harbor seals, cormorants, pelicans, otters, and bald eagles. Your local guide will explain why this is such a special area while discussing history, wildlife, and the weather unique to this ecosystem.

During this class you will learn and hands-on do all the steps to make a beautiful artisan-quality loaf of sourdough bread both with and without the hassle of making a sourdough starter. If you are able to travel with it, we will provide you with some fresh lively sourdough starter to take home. This cannot go on airplanes.
Hands on with farm animals
We will begin our tour with introduction to our sanctuary herd of horses. With over 20 horses in our care there is never a dull moment here! Alongside the horses you will find many other animals to get cozy with- from chickens to goats to turkeys, peafowl and even sanctuary cows, we are a safe haven for ALL living creatures. Guests are welcome to get hands on and snuggle with equines of all sizes, while enjoying the serene beauty of the quiet countryside on the outskirts of Petaluma. Guests will have the opportunity to groom horses and take the minis on a guided walk with their handlers.
Create Ricotta, Tartines, and Cacio e Pepe
You will be greeted with some specialty non-alcoholic beverages, along with some affection from our three small rescue dogs. I will teach you how to make homemade ricotta cheese in a very simple way, and then how to use that ricotta to make tartines (rustic bread toasted and spread with Ricotta and topped with your choices of things -- we take them to a whole new level with at least 25 special ingredients I create just for you) and a quick and easy version of cacio e pepe (what I call a grown-ups mac n' cheese). You will learn what to do with the whey which is leftover from making cheese. We will even pick some herbs and edible flowers from my herb garden, and learn more about those as part of this experience. Then you will sit down to eat the creations you have made. You will leave with the recipes you need to easily recreate the ricotta at home, and a new skill to share with your family and friends. Other things to note As this class centers around making ricotta cheese, if you have a dairy allergy this would not work for you. However, if you are simply lactose intolerant we CAN make this with lactose-free milk. Please let me know in advance. We have three small friendly dogs who are part of the welcoming committee. If you have a dog allergy or aversion, please understand this part of the experience cannot be changed.

Take advantage of our group discounts! ★ 10% OFF — groups from 4 to 5 guests ★ 15% OFF — from 6 guests My kitchen experience is formed around the experience of being Puro Californio, my indigenous ancestors go back before the Spaniards arrived, and the European side sailed from France to settle Sonoma in the 1850s. Those roots run deep in ancestry and attitude. My palate reflects that and draws from Americana, Regional Mexican, Mediterranean, Moroccan, and even aspects of Vietnamese. The West Coast experience is in my blood, and the purest expression of that for me is via the plate and pen. I also have a gritty, sentimental side that I pour onto each preparation. I will arrive before your dining time to begin working my magic. Not only that, but I will show up at your doorstep equipped with every ingredient needed to prepare your meal. Feel free to put your apron on and cook some dishes with me! I am eager to share with you the secrets behind my recipes and local hidden treasures.
