Our buildings are right next to the ocean so you can fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean and the rainforest. Our property boasts 130 acres of Primary rainforest to explore right on the border of the Corcovado National Park. In order to arrive, you most take an hour and a half boat ride from Sierpe, or a 15 min boat ride from Drake Bay. The boat leaves Sierpe at 11:20am and Drake Bay at ~12:30am. We have a bar/restaurant on the property with many options on the menus.
We regularly get visits from our resident tapir, monkeys, and many other animals. We offer many tour options like trips to Cano Island which you can see right from your window. We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and spearfish fresh fish right outside our bay for dinners. We offer a bar as well as laundry services.
Our closest neighbors are a 30 minute walk to the north or an hour walk to the south. We have surprisingly close ties to the surrounding community given the remoteness of our location, but do not expect to find a grocery store or an atm nearby. Prepare to unplug and enjoy nature in its purest form!

Beautifully designed open air home just steps from the beach.
Casa Troya reflects the typical home design of the Osa Peninsula with its half-height walls and natural, local building materials. It has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom downstairs and a loft partitioned into two bedrooms upstairs. The overall aesthetic of this home evokes a sense of movement as the lines of the structure resemble a wave, ship or an animal, depending on one's perspective. The house is situated just 50 meters from the beach offering views of the water and a nice ocean breeze. Casa Troya offers a comfortable and inspired place to spend your vacation. Internet is not available at the house, however, is available in a different structure on the property that is about a 2 minute walk from the house.
Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 15 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. Over the years, Matapalo has become a surf destination. It borders a beach along the Pacific Ocean that routinely ushers in large swells. There are several areas to surf. The waves vary in difficulty, allowing for beginner to expert surfing opportunity. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation. The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than (phone number hidden) vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.
  • Fallegt og mjög einka blettur. Super afslöppun. Fjölskyldan okkar hafði frábæra tíma.

    Marie2019-03-01T00:00:00Z

Casa Aire Libre is a two-story, open air rustic home truly one with nature, located in the forest reserve of the world famous Corcovado National Park with the new El Tigre entrance only minutes away.
Where the rough road ends and the majestic rainforest begins, lies this idyllic home and garden perched above the Rio Tigre, surrounded in breathtaking beauty and providing a one of a kind Osa experience. Casa Aire Libre offers guests a creatively comfortable home, designed to provide a fun and inspiring environment from which to witness and explore the abundant natural wonders of the vibrant surrounding rainforest. Entering the quaint village of Dos Brazos is like stepping back in time, where the pace of life slows down and one begins to observe the perfect balance and harmony orchestrated by the abundant natural beauty of the area.
Dos Brazos is a town with a rich history and an even more prosperous future. Not more than 40 years ago, gold, and lots of it, was Dos Brazos claim to fame. People came from everywhere to work for the gold mining companies back then. After the companies left some decided to stay and Dos Brazos de Rio Tigre was born. Today Dos Brazos is a sleepy little town of just 300 inhabitants that lies in the richest location you can imagine, right at the border of the world famous Corcovado National Park. Although gold mining is still practiced, the wealth is in the amazing diversity of flora and fauna and wild life. In fact Corcovado is thought to be one of the most biologically intense and pristine places in the world! It’s a small oasis of civilization, surrounded by the jungle of the forest reserve that encompasses Corcovado. Although it’s a short 12-kilometer ride from the beautiful Pacific beaches of Puerto Jimenez, and just a little further from great wave riding in Matapalo, it’s a town that is barely known on the tourist circuit. From Dos Brazos you’ll find extensive walking trails into the jungle, with many waterfalls to see, world class birding, horseback riding, gold mining tours, and more are all available. So get off the beaten path, and make your way to Dos Brazos del Rio Tigre!

Our beautiful garden cabin is right near the beach front, and gives you an impressive view of the sunrise over the ocean. The calming sound of the waves along with the noises of the jungle at night ensure that you have a great night's sleep. A prime location only 30 seconds walk from the untouched, pristine beach, as well as being within the jungle, this property is popular with all kinds of wildlife. Although we say no events or parties, we sometimes have bonfires on the beach.
This cabin offers impressive views of the beach, Playa Platanares as well as a beautiful night sky, unblemished by light pollution due to the rural location. The solid hardwood bed and comfy mattress promise a great night's sleep, and the covered balcony with chairs and table provides a relaxing area for you to take some time out. The cabin also has a light and electrical sockets for when you need to log back in to the real world, and wifi is available at the main house.
We are 15 minutes taxi journey away from the local town of Puerto Jimenez, which has everything you need - large supermarket, restaurants, cafes, beach bars, pharmacies and gift shops. In the immediate area, we have two lovely hotels from where you can have a drink, a meal, and use the pool (for a small fee) - though you may prefer to swim in the sea as it is right on your doorstep! There are many things to do around the area, and we are more than happy to help you plan activities to make the most of your stay on the Osa Peninsula. Activities include: kayaking in the mangroves, fishing, surfing, nature hikes into Corcovado National Park, boat tours for whale and dolphin spotting, snorkeling, chocolate tours, canopy tours, crocodile watching, and horseback riding.

Casa Oceanside is a cute little concrete beach bungalow about 80 meters from the sand. The propery is a 900 sqm tropical garden with a variety of wildlife, that can be seen daily. The waves that break in front of our house are perfect for beginners.
Casa „Oceanside“ was designed with love and function in mind. Cool and open during the hot summer months, but dry and cozy once the rain hits. The two storied concrete bungalow, perfectly tucked away in a lush tropical two acre garden teeming with wildlife can be, whatever you want it to be: A „surfer´s private refuge“, a „birdwatcher´s colourful paradise“, a „quiet girlie getaway“, a „honeymooner´s romantic hideout“ or a „wildlife enthusiast´s research base“. The house sleeps two persons comfortable (kingsize bed), or three at the most (additional sofa). Steps away from Playa Sombrero in the Matapalo Area, Casa „Oceanside“ offers everything you need for a lifetime experience along the jungles of the the prestine Osa Peninsula. Being so far off the grid, we work with solar power around here. Our panels provide enough energy to power the lights, a refrigerator to keep your drinks cool and your veggies fresh, your laptop and also your Smartphone. Our fresh water source is a deep well. The water gets pumped via a 12v solar pump into the tank ontop of a tower and flows back by gravity into the house. Our water has been tested by a labratory in New York and is 100% drinkable and good for cooking. The fully equipped kitchen comes with all amenities, pots, pans, cuttlery and towels, a 4 range gas-stove, a Daywoo fridge with freezing compartement and a breakfast countertop for 2 persons. The storage room that houses the solar batteries and the inverter (converting 12 volt solar power to 110v) also has a security safe for all your valuables such as credit cards, passports, cash money or cameras/phones. The internet out here is weak and patience is key. The Café "Monka" in Puerto Jimenez provides a fast wireless connection. A spacious living area with two sofas borders the office space with a big office table, bookshelf with plenty of reading material in german, spanish and english and a reading sofa/day bed combo, that can easily serve as a third bed. The bathroom provides towels, hot water shower, hot water sink and a toilet and was just redone with a very stylish slate floor. Upstairs you will find the masterbedroom with a huge kingsize bed and a super comfy new matress. A tight mashed mosquito net will help to keep insects out during the wet months (July to December). From January until June, you could easily sleep without the net. The Masterbedroom is surrounded by terraces. The roofs of the bathroom and the office also serve as hangout platforms. A big sundeck with two hammocks and wooden chairs plus table are perfect for that sundown cocktail while you watch howler monkeys up close, crazy squirrel monkeys swiftly leaping great distances from branch to branch, pairs of Scarlett Macaws flying overhead and hummingbirds buzzing close to your head. If you are lucky you will see an anteater strolling through the garden or a coati (pizote) checking for something to eat in the tropical bush. From the office roof, you can climb onto the roof of the bedroom via a comfortable ladder and gaze at the starts at night. During the summer months it is highly recommendable to throw some pillows up onto the roof and lie there for hours with a cool drink in hand, watching shooting stars, or checking the always visible Orion constellation, the beautiful Pleiades or the southern Zodiac signs. Nothing short of miraculous. „National Geographic“ once described the Osa Peninsula as „one of the world´s biologically most intense places on earth.“ Once here, you will quickly find out why. A hobby-birdwatcher from Minnesota recently counted 137 different species of birds on our property alone. Add the Otters, playing in our clear water river, that runs through the property (May through December only), the occasional Sloth, Armadillos, Caimans, Turtles, Toucans, Aracaris, Monkeys, Anteaters, Iguanas or the Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphins and Whales and you will get an idea. As for activities, they are almost too numerous to mention: Perfect Longboard- and easy learning waves for surfing, roll in right infront of the house. We run a small but exquisite surf school business off Playa Sombrero and always have plenty of rental boards to chose from. Grab a board, walk 80 yards to the beach at hightide and enjoy the waves with only you and a few other friendly surfers in the line-up. For the more experienced surfer, (almost) world class waves can be found in the close vicinity. Also: sea kayaking, SUP paddling, swimming, snorkeling, boogieboarding, sport fishing and boat trips are all possible. We can assist you with your trip into the Corcovado National Park too. Tidepools are waiting a 10 minute walk down the beach. Treeclimbing, jungle hikes, waterfall repelling, horseback riding, bird watching, yoga classes, massages, or just long walks along the wild and empty beaches without ever meeting another soul will make your stay a remarkable memory. Bring sandals, the sand gets very hot. During your stay, there will be property managment nearby. If you have questions, just ask. Rental Car assitance, medical attention, shopping in Puerto Jimenez, trip booking etc... We will be more than happy to help. Pura Vida Michelle & Eddy
Playa Sombrero, Carbonera and Cabo Matapalo is a small stretch of isolated and lonely beaches with a string of houses, tucked away in the bushes. Nice people and friendly neighbors that know each other for years, look out for one another and help each other.

Casa Los Suenos is a guest house with the Rio Tigre right in front of the property in the forest reserve of the Corcovado National Park, with the new El Tigre entrance only minutes away. A very peaceful setting at the edge of the village, no street lights and the sounds of the rainforest all around.
This tropical casa is located in Dos Brazos de Rio Tigre at the end of the road where the jungle begins. A very wild place indeed and Casa los Suenos is a private guest house but not isolated as the property manager’s home is next door. This is very helpful in assuring guests have the best possible experience but not for someone looking for a completely secluded vacation rental with no neighbors. The Osa Peninsula, southwest Costa Rica is where the rainforest meets the sea. It is in one of the most remote, most spectacular and wildest regions in the country. One of the last places in Costa Rica to be settled, it has been dubbed Costa Rica's last wilderness frontier. Rich in wildlife, sparsely populated and until recently very difficult to access by road. Consequently much of the peninsula is still covered in majestic, pristine rainforest. Dominated by Corcovado National Park which protects most of the peninsula, the Osa supports more then fifty percent of the animal and plant species that live in Costa Rica. National Geographic has described the Osa as, "The most biologically intense place on earth".

Located directly at the beach Playa Platanares, only 6km east of Puerto Jimenez. It is one of the best beaches on the Osa Peninsula, still natural, remote, lonely, with dark sand, palm trees and beach almond trees, which attract a lot of scarlet macaws. Each beach house has an open kitchen, a living area and bathroom on the ground floor, and a bedroom on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the garden. Fresh water is pumped straight from our on site well.
A prime location only 30 seconds walk from the untouched, pristine beach, as well as being within the Costa Rican jungle, this property is popular with all kinds of wildlife. Regular visitors include howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, hawks, as well as resident crabs, frogs, iguanas, geckos and more! We are also right next to a popular nesting beach for four different types of sea turtles. Although we say no events or parties, we sometimes have bonfires on the beach.
Activities include: kayaking in the mangroves, fishing, surfing, nature hikes into Corcovado National Park, boat tours for whale and dolphin spotting, snorkeling, chocolate tours, canopy tours, crocodile watching, horseback riding and more.

Our beautiful and spacious cement house was just completed in December 2019. The spacious bedroom offers a queen bed, and in the living room there is a comfy full-sized sofa bed. We have an additional single bed with mattress that we can set up in the living room or bedroom upon request. The spacious bathroom with beautiful stonework is inviting for taking a nice hot water shower. The fully outfitted kitchen is a semi-outdoor space, all screened in with mosquito netting. Nice outside patio.
The entire house is surrounded by maintained garden and fruit trees such as bananas, coconut (pipa), plantain, lemons, avocado, starfruit, and more. Parking is right outside your home on the driveway. The property is around 1500 square meters in total.
The neighborhood is quiet and there are only a few houses around. Behind the rental unit, there is farmland with plants and with our two horses Mora and Morita. Next to the rental towards the North, there is a property that no one currently lives on. The street out front of the rental home is a dead-end road with a few more families that live there. We are currently the last house on the road with grid-tied electricity. The families further down the road use solar energy and sometimes run a generator. Right around the corner, around 5 minutes walk, there is primary and secondary forest with all 4 monkey species, sloth, coati, agouti, Tyra, pumas, ocelot, and more! The Bambu hill is connected to world-famous Corcovado National Park, so all animals that are found there can also be found here. If you're into birding, there is ample opportunity to bird watch. We have toucans, scarlet macaws, parrots, and hummingbirds right on our property, as well as Trogons, Red-capped Manakins, Torquoise Mot Mot in the forest right around the corner. Often you can hear the howler monkeys right from your front porch in the early mornings (howling over at the forest around 5 minutes walk).

Enjoy indoor/outdoor living with floor to ceiling louvered doors and an ocean view from every room... Very private -- monkeys and parrots will be your closest neighbors. This is a nature-lover's PARADISE!! Explore or just chill in the hammocks!
Pelican House is on the Osa Peninsula, one of the last wild places in the world. Ocean views from every room. Private and romantic. Great swimming on the most beautiful beach in the Osa. Scarlet macaws and squirrel monkeys are your only neighbors. A nature lover's paradise! We are right on the water, very private and serene. Most days, when you walk the beach, you'll feel that you’ve been dropped on a deserted island. If you love nature, this is the place for you :) The house is rustic, but lovely, with ocean views from every room, the gentle lull of the surf day and night, and a calm, warm ocean just 200 meters away. The house is open and airy, with floor to ceiling louvered doors, and a cathedral ceiling. We love to leave civilization behind and live close to nature. Wild parrots, scarlet macaws and howler monkeys are the first sounds of the morning. The sunrise over the Gulfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf) is stunning... and then you can choose to explore the Osa - or just stay home and nap in the hammock between dips in the ocean... Low-impact...Living Off The Grid: We believe in living lightly and are off the grid, completely solar-powered. There are six ceiling fans and screens on the louvered doors. Our kitchen is basic, but it is open, airy and fully equipped. The fridge is also powered by solar (note that it does not have a freezer - but it is easy to buy ice in town to keep in the cooler). Each of the two bedrooms has an ocean view. Floor to ceiling louvered doors and ceiling fans in every room. Full kitchen (basic but beautiful :). Hammocks galore. Our wonderful caretaker will make your stay complete. This is a perfect place for a honeymoon or a small family vacation. Two private bedrooms with queen beds. We also have two inflatable mattresses and a very comfortable couch. On the best beach in the Osa - Pelican House is great for kids (and great without them!)... Wake to the calls of howler monkeys. Zip lines are nearby and good surfing just up the coast (waterfalls, too). The Osa is a bird watcher's paradise. Yipes -- what more can we say?! It is incredible! Some info: Costa Rica is home to a rich variety of plants and animals. While the country has only about 0.25% of the world's landmass, it contains 5% of the world's biodiversity. Around 25% of the country's land area is in protected national parks and protected areas, the largest percentage of protected areas in the world (developing world average 13%, developed world average 8%). Costa Rica has successfully managed to diminish deforestation from some of the worst rates in the world from 1973 to 1989, to almost zero by 2005.

Enjoy the privacy of a lovely beach just for yourself, unspoiled like at the beginning of times. Imagine you are Christopher Columbus arriving in the Americas! That's exactly the view he must have had.
If what you seek is pristine rainforest teeming with monkeys, macaws and mysterious beasts, this is the place to come. From the quiet waters of the gulf to the National Park of Corcovado, nowhere else in Costa Rica will you find such intense and diverse tropical flora and fauna. The house is simple, but quite comfortable. Two nice bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, rustic furniture, a well enough equipped kitchen if you do not aim to become a chef. The place is far from it all, in a cove overlooking the Gulf. What you might like best could be to get up early and have a cup of coffee on the hammocks on the patio and watch the sun rise on the Gulf with the red macaws overhead and the sound of the howler monkeys in the back yard.
There are 2 restaurants nearby: a typical one and one for seafood. We particularly recommend the fish soup.

The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than 4000-5000 vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The Osa Peninsula The Osa Peninsula is considered the most unspoiled and fascinating region of Costa Rica. It has been presented by National Geographic as "The most intense biologically place on earth". It hosts more than 2.5% of the world's biodiversity and many endemic and / or endangered plant and animal species such as the Baird's tapir, the jaguar, the cougar, the ocelot ... and half of the birds visible in Costa Rica . It is mainly forest. The largest tropical rain forest on the Pacific coast. It also hides many unknown archaeological treasures but also gold (one of the purest in the world). Corcovado National Park With 54,000 hectares, it covers a large part of the Osa Peninsula. 8 types of habitat and 13 different ecosystems are listed. It is home to over 15,313 plant species and 500 trees, 140 mammal species, 367 bird species, 117 reptile or amphibian species, 40 fish species and 6,000 different insects ... and the 4 species of primates present in Costa Rica, The Golfo Dulce Commander Cousteau introduced Golfo Dulce as a "tropical fjord". There would be four in the world. It is 51 km long and about 13 km wide. Its maximum depth is about 200 m (10th deepest in the world). On the other hand, the entry of the gulf, less deep, protects it from the strong currents of the Pacific. The absence of industry and / or important urban areas also explains the purity of its water. Finally, the importance of the contribution of the rivers which if spilled explains that the surface water is less salty than that of the ocean. One of the peculiarities of the Gulf is that the tropical rain forest is in direct contact with the sea ... The Gulf is home to two species of dolphins, three species of sea turtles, whale sharks ... Humpback whales come here to "mother" ... Refugio of Vida Silvestre Preciosa Platanares Punta Preciosa is in the heart of the Refugio de Vida Silvestre Preciosa Platanares. A protection zone that links Corcovado National Park with Reserva Golfo Dulce. It consists of jungle, beaches and mangroves. Its goal is the protection of a unique and fascinating ecosystem that is the mangrove. Playa Platanares Preciosa Punta Preciosa is on Playa Platanares, The beach is often deserted and the area in front of Punta Preciosa is perfect for swimming. The beach is a turtle nesting area. Tortugas Preciosas Playa Platanares / Preciosa is an important turtle nesting beach. The latter are in the process of extinction and the nests have many predators (dogs, wild animals and the man who continues to consume the eggs ...) With the local residents, the ministries and the scientists, we have launched a program to protect turtle nests ... We receive volunteers who patrol, locate, geo-locate, list, hide or move if necessary, monitor nests ... and protect small turtles when they reach the ocean. You can participate in night patrols with volunteers .... Puerto Jimenez This typical village is 6 km from Punta Preciosa. It has many restaurants, bars, shops ... but also a post office, banks, ATMs, a clinic, a gas station, a police station, an airport ...

    Christina2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Við elskaði dvöl okkar í húsinu þínu, þakka þér kærlega fyrir allt!

La Casita del Rio is situated right next to the Rio Tigre close to the center of Dos Brazos so there are neighbors but as well surrounded by lush secondary growth rainforest, with sounds of exotic birds and howler monkeys in the distance. With uncrowded nature trails, waterfalls, jungle scenery, this is the perfect location for exploring Corcovado National Park and the Osa Peninsula. Off the beaten track, yet only 12 km/7.5 miles from Puerto Jimenez and beautiful beaches.
La Casita del Rio is located in the Osa Peninsula, southwest Costa Rica where the rainforest meets the sea. It is one of the most remote, most spectacular and wildest regions in the country. One of the last places in Costa Rica to be settled, it has been dubbed Costa Rica's last wilderness frontier. Rich in wildlife, sparsely populated and until recently very difficult to access by road. Consequently much of the peninsula is still covered in majestic, pristine rainforest. Dominated by Corcovado National Park which protects most of the peninsula, the Osa supports more than fifty percent of the animal and plant species that live in Costa Rica. National Geographic has described the Osa as, "The most biologically intense place on earth".

At night, fall asleep to nothing more than the sounds of wildlife and waves. Shanti Wasi one of the few places where you really can get away from it all!
Shanti Wasi is located in the small beachside community of Cabo Matapalo at the southern tip of Costa Rica's Osa peninsula in an area of outstanding natural beauty, where dense tropical rainforest tumbles down through misty hills and valleys onto a rugged coastline of rocky coves, sandy bays and distant headlands to meet the sparkling blue waters of the Golfo Dulce and crashing waves of the pacific ocean. This is the wild side of Costa Rica, one of the last untamed regions in the country, with over 70% of the rainforest still intact. The peninsula is home to Corcovado National Park, the jewel in the crown of the nation's wildlife and conservation programs. The park encompasses one third of the peninsula and is one of central americas last refuges for the elusive Jaguar. The Osa is a place of intense biodiversity, a noah's ark of flora and fauna. Many of Costa Rica's most endangered species proliferate here and especially in the Cabo Matapalo area you will be sure to see all four of central america's primate groups. The howler monkey, spider monkey, capuchin and most endangered, the squirrel monkey, not to mention a host of other strange and exotic creatures. A staggering 426 species of birds have been recorded on the peninsula and our area is home to one of the most endangered, the raucous, larger than life scarlet macaw. At one point there were more scarlet macaws in captivity than existed in the wild. Now, thanks to efforts by conservation groups and individuals, the balance is being redressed. Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula, located in the country's remote southern zone, is home to empty beaches, lush jungles, and some of the planet's greatest diversity of wildlife. It is known for world-class surf, fishing, birding, and other activities. It also is home to Corcovado National Park, which National Geographic magazine described as sheltering many of the earth's rare wildlife species. There are no major highways, no grid electricity, and no crowds on the Osa. One main road carries visitors and local around the outer edge of the peninsula, and everything else is wild. This is truly a rare find in Central America and so far has escaped the influences of mass tourism. It is a special place for those interested in quiet, secluded vacations that are close to nature.
