“Interesting little museum. I love it because the Norman keep is intact and has its roof - a rare thing for a castle!”

“With a stunning location on the north Norfolk coast and at the heart of a thriving 25,000 acre estate, Holkham Hall is described as an exceptional place, rich in history, architecture and wildlife. The seat of the Earls of Leicester, this elegant 18th century mansion is still very much a lived-in family home which the family take pride in sharing with visitors. The hall is an elegant 18th century Palladian style house, based on designs by William Kent and built by Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester. The Marble Hall is a spectacular introduction to this imposing building, with its 50ft pressed plaster dome ceiling and walls of English alabaster, not marble as its name implies. Stairs lead to magnificent state rooms displaying superb collections of ancient statuary, original furniture, tapestries and paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Claude, Gaspar Poussin and Gainsborough.”

“A great little museum in Wymondham, giving the history of this lovely town and surrounding area. There is a little cafe too. Great to tie in with an explore of the town with its iconic 17th century grade 1 Market Cross, the 900 year old abbey and not to mention it’s quirky little charity shops, I have picked up some great little antique bits from these shops! if you arrive on a Friday morning/third Saturday of the month, there is a market/farmers market in the old market place, next to the historical Market Cross. Wymondham is just 5 miles from the Cartlodge.”

“Hire a cycle in some of the most beautiful parkland next to the most beautiful coastline! Hundreds of miles of fine and quiet capillary lanes flow just behind the main coast road, dotted with country pubs.”

“Walsingham has a long history of religious pilgrimage and a wealth of historic buildings dating from 14th century. There are the remains of a medieval priory surrounded by stunning gardens with seasonal flowers. The Walsingham Abbey Grounds are particularly stunning in February when they are covered in a mass of snowdrops. There are plenty of shops cafes and tea rooms in the village. For narrow-gauge railway enthusiasts there is the Wells & Walsingham Light Railway. Said to be the longest 10 and a quarter inch narrow gauge railway in the world.”
