History Museum
“A little biased because I worked on this museum, but it is a must visit on your trip to Juneau. It reopened with brand new exhibits in 2016. It’s unique in that the stories of all of Alaska’s history and cultures are told here. It’s a little bit farther away, about a 15 minute walk. ”

“The famous Mendenhall Glacier is a must when visiting Juneau. It's a nice 2 mile walk or bike ride on either a paved bike path or nice gravel trail from Grandma's Suite, Gramdma's Room, Glacier Guest Room, and Gold Nuggett. It's 3 miles from Granite Getaway, and Thunder Mountain Place, 4.5 miles from Shangri-La, 5.5 miles from Harbor Haven and Auke Bay and Suite View. You can visit the glacier on your own, or as part of an Excursion. I recommend The Best of Juneau tour which includes whale watching, the Gold Creek Salmon Bake, and the Mendenhall Glacier. “Located on Douglas Island this is a family favorite. We have had many dinners with friends over the 46 years we have lived here. This was one of the first restaurants we were taken to as newcomers. ”

“This is where you go for a fine dining experience in Juneau. This is the place go for a romantic dinner. The portions are small and the prices are higher, but the atmosphere is worth it. Locally sourced dishes and interesting house invented cocktails are found on the menu. ”

“Mt. Robert's Tramway yields breath taking aerial views from about 1800 feet up Mt. Roberts. Take the tram up, and if you're wanting a hike, hike the rest of the way up the mountain (perhaps up to the cross, or up to the peak if you want to go hard.) There's a restaurant up there and a giant gift shop. The views are the big reason to go up!”

“Go see the most iconic place in SE Alaska and stop in at the visitors center. Forest Service employees can answer your questions and guide you to appropriate trails ranging from easy to experienced hikers only. You can see bears, mountain goats, large granite boulders and best of all the glacier. You do not want to miss this while you are here. ”

“This place has delicious homemade ice creams. The rhubarb sorbet is my favorite made from the owner’s own garden. The ice cream is the stand out here, but for sure you can grab a baked good or a sandwich as well. ”

Distillery
“Our friends started Amalga Distillery a few years back, and it has quickly become a hot spot! Stop by for a delicious gin drink, and pick up a bottle to bring home. They typically have a non-alcoholic beverage on tap as well. ”

“This is the one and only beach to take the little ones so they can walk in the sand. "Sandy Beach" is how the locals know this area. There is a play area and covered shelters (available to rent). It is also the access point to the historic Treadwell mining area (where do you think the sand came from).”
