Our home sits on the edge of Alton town, in a small close. It is a pleasant 15 minute walk to Market Street. There are lots of lovely cafes and food stores. You will enjoy your Single Bedroom, just off the shared kitchen, with own bathroom (unless the Double Bedroom is also occupied by guests). You will be welcome to share our kitchen for your breakfast and light meals, if you so wish. The area has many walks and wonderful attractions to enjoy a short or long break with us.
The room is airy and bright, quiet and pleasant.
The market town of Alton offers a delightful mix of historic buildings and modern shops and arcades. It is well known for its regular Tuesday market day as well as other markets and fairs. The village of Chawton, famously the home of Jane Austen, is nearby and you can follow a circular walk from Chawton to Upper Farringdon, past places of interest that Jane Austen knew. The Watercress Line steam railway goes from Alton, trundling through pleasant country side, through the village of Ropley and on to Alresford. The Sun Inn in Bentworth is a favourite and beautiful pub, which can be reached in under an hour's walk from our home or a seven minute drive. There are plenty of other pubs in the town of Alton, with good food and drinks, to enjoy during your visit.

In August 2006, Anna and Will introduced the UK's first Feather Down farm. Situated on the edge of the South Downs National Park, Manor Farm remains a tranquil oasis just an hour from London that many guests have returned to time and again for their Hampshire glamping farm holiday. Farming arable, cattle and sheep among a classic rolling landscape of copses and sunken lanes is even more of a pleasure now the family get to share it with so many happy people. You will relax in one of the extra luxurious Frills tents: either under a twinkling starscape in your own hot tub, or instead at a tent with its own en suite, depending on your booking selection. The tents are in the old farm orchard under trees or amongst hedgerows and are ideally spaced, each one offering privacy whilst also being well placed for groups. Some face into the orchard towards the lamb paddock, while others have views over Alton and the rolling countryside beyond. Each tent has its own campfire site for cooking hearty meals in the stew pot or toasting marshmallows, and there are plenty of places for foraging wood. A barbecue under the stars is not to be missed, for which the meat is often provided ' the marinated butterflied leg of lamb being a favourite. In September, the hedgerows are full of berries, guests having lots of fun foraging for food from the hedgerows & fields. Wandering off site, there are great local pubs within walking distance, including the Three Horseshoes 1 mile away in East Worldham who have always looked after our guests well. For those who love a dip, there's wild swimming at Frensham Ponds that is only 20 minutes away, or a fun paddle at West Wittering and Hayling Island on the coast, which you can reach within an hour. A characterful double bedroom with comfortable kings size bed within a period cottage located in Lower Farringdon. The Cottage is a five minute drive from Alton town and the station. Ideally located for visits to Jane Austen's House/Village of Chawton, Winchester and The Watercress Line. There are two great country pubs, both within walking distance. Although we are located in a small village, we are near a main road and the hum of traffic can be heard at peak times.
The Cottage is believed to be dated back to the 16th Century so has lots of character. The room is fitted with bedside draws, a desk and small wardrobe. Jane Austen's house and museum are 20 minutes walk away in the village of Chawton. There is space for one car on the drive at the rear of the property.
We are perfectly located for visits to Jane Austins House Museum in the neighboring Village of Chawton. Jane Austen's House Museum in Chawton is the house where Jane Austen lived and wrote. It is the most treasured Austen site in the world. It was in this country cottage that Jane's genius flourished and where she wrote, revised and had published all her major works, including the timeless Pride and Prejudice. We have two pubs in the Village, both in walking distance, we can highly recommend the Rose & Crown in Upper Farringdon for food!

West Cross House Studio is the perfect place to stay to get away from it all. It is in the middle of Upper Farringdon village and is within walking distance of two lovely pubs bother serving good food, the Rose and Crown and the Pheasant. Farringdon is a beautiful rural village situated in the South Downs National Park - the village is also on the Writers Walk. The Studio is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and furry friends (pets).
The garden studio is a large self-contained space with a wood burning stove (as well as heaters) and a very good shower etc - there is no kitchen but I do provide tea and coffee making facilities and there is a small fridge. The bed is a sofa bed but it is an extremely comfortable one. There is a little patio outside with table and chairs. There is plenty of space to put a mattress on the floor if an extra bed is required.
Farringdon is beautiful village in the South Downs National Park, within walking distance of the villages of Chawton, where Jane Austin lived and also Selborne which was the home of the naturalist Gilbert White - I like to think that Jane may even have had tea at my house. There are many wonderful walks around Farringdon.

Renovated in June 2019, the house is a real haven, ideally located in the heart of Chawton village and surrounding Hampshire. Farthings was built circa 1700 for the workers of the Squires big house, which is now the Jane Austen Library in the centre of Chawton. The writer's home, now a museum, is directly opposite the house and it's said that Austen family members stayed in Farthings when they ran out of room. They certainly smoked hams for Squire Knight's guests in the inglenook fireplace.
As our guest, you will have exclusive use of the house which enjoys two double bedrooms with an upstairs bathroom, the lounge with open fire and a brand-new kitchen with modern appliances. The garden (to the left as you come out of the house at the back) is a secret gem, offering plenty of space and seating area to relax and peak over the wall to the field of horses and nearby South Downs National Park.
Chawton is a special place, not only because of the role it played in Jane Austen's life but also as a great village in the heart of Hampshire. The neighbours are more than welcoming (including Marmite the village cat who, like him or not, will always provide a welcome if you spot him parading the street). Obviously Chawton attracts many visitors drawn to the Austen connection and you will not be disappointed. There is a genuine charm whether you are there to visit the Museum or Library or just relax in the gentille surroundings and nearby park and its many varied walks. The year-long agenda of events, talks and village activities (including monthly brocante) will more than satisfy those seeking activity on the doorstep, or a short visit followed by an afternoon relaxing in the garden.

Our house "Prowtings" sits in the centre of the charming village of Chawton, a stones throw from Jane Austen's house. It features regularly in her letters as a property she visited to socialise with friends. Visitors can stay in the beautifully refurbished two doubled bedroom split level annexe in the original old section of the house dated 1713 (the right hand section as you look at the front of the house).
The annexe is very well equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. You'll have your own front door access, living room/dining room, kitchen, separate cloakroom and toilet downstairs, bath and shower room and two large double rooms looking out over the front lawns upstairs. The kitchen has all the modcons, - dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, kettle, oven, fridge, utensils, cutlery etc. The living room has two comfortable sofas, a coffee table, TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs, writing desk along with local maps, things to do and places to see.
We live in Chawton, which is one of the most picturesque villages in Hampshire and regarded as the literary home of Jane Austen. She moved here in 1809 with her family and happily spent the last 8 years of her life here producing all her novels - revising previous drafts, including Pride and Prejudice, and writing her three later novels including Emma. She expressed her joy at being in Chawton in a poem to her brother: My dearest Frank, I wish you joy: "Our Chawton home, how much we find Already in it, to our mind; And how convinced, that when complete It will all other Houses beat That ever have been made or mended With rooms concise, or rooms distended." J.A. Austen, 26 July, 1809 Chawton is fantastically located and there is plenty to see and do. It sits within the South Downs National Park and surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are many walks through and from the village including the "Jane Austen Walk" which is a 4.5 mile circular walk and features our home, Prowtings. The village is full of pretty thatched cottages, has a lovely tea room, a very good child friendly pub, village hall (which hosts evening clubs and entertainment and an antiques fair on the 3rd Sunday of each month), a playground, a cricket pitch where you can watch games in the summertime, a village church and churchyard where Jane Austen's mother and sister are buried, as well of course as the world famous Jane Austen House Museum (open from March) and the wonderful Chawton House Library an Elizabethan Manor, with it's sweeping lawns, terraces, walled garden, once owned by Jane Austen's brother Edward Knight. The market town of Alton is 5 minutes by car and 15 minutes on foot. Jane and her sister Casssandra walked to Alton regularly to shop and their brother Henry, who was a London banker, had a branch bank at 10 High Street. Today Alton has a variety of supermarkets, shops, banks and things to do. You can ride the steam trains on the Watercress Line, visit the Curtis Museum, the Allen Gallery and the public gardens and playground (where you might catch a concert band performing) or go to the sports centre for a swim or a climb on the climbing wall! Alton's train station provides rail links to the rest of the country, and a direct line to London. London Waterloo can be reached in an hour. The village of Selbourne with Gilbert White's museum is 5 minutes drive away and the historic market towns of Alresford and Farnham (with Birdworld and Alice Holt Adventure Forest) are 15 minutes drive. Slightly further a field at 20 minutes drive are Winchester with its fantastic old town and Cathedral with amazing Science Museum; Basingstoke with great shopping and leisure facilities (cinemas, ice skating, bowling, aquadrome) and Petersfield, the Norman market town with markets on Wednesday and Saturday. Guildford can be reached in 30 minutes and Portsmouth, the New Forest, Southampton, Chichester and Goodwood, all with their multitude of attractions, within 45 minutes.

There is a kettle and tea and coffee in the room. Alton often has farmers markets and there are lovely walks nearby and some nice independent cafes and Market Square where you will find bars and restaurants.
It's a lovely town surrounded by beautiful countryside. Easy access to London. Lots of great pubs and country walks. Or if it's sunny just chill on the balcony and watch the world go by..

You’ll love my place because of the location. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the Jane Austen House Museum, local pub and tearoom. It is also ideally suited for exploring the South Downs National Park, historic market town of Alton with its steam railway and is only 15 miles from Winchester, the ancient capital of Wessex. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).
Clement Court is a modern (less than 10 years old) semi-detached property within a small private cul-de-sac. Spread over 3 floors, the house offers good sized rooms and plenty of space. I have included floor plans in the photos.
Chawton is a quiet, typical English village with a number of thatched houses, tearooms, a traditional English pub and a cricket pitch. There are a number of walks on public footways and bridle paths to other local villages. Alton town centre is a 20/25 minute walk or less than 5 minutes by car.

Our home sits on the edge of Alton town, in a small close. It is a pleasant 15 minute walk to Market Street. There are lots of lovely cafes and food stores. You will enjoy your Double Bedroom, just off the shared kitchen, your own bathroom (unless the Single Room is also in use with guests) and courtyard garden. You will be welcome to share our kitchen for your breakfast and light meals, if you so wish. The area has many walks and wonderful attractions to enjoy a short or long break with us.
The room is airy and bright, quiet and pleasant, with double doors onto the Courtyard Garden, which can be used by our guests.
