My farm has been in our family for 6 generations. It is currently not a working farm but at one time in the 1800's supported 12 family members. The Walker family cemetery which you will see during your camping stay has 6 of those 12 original family members.
My Great , Great Grandfather Spencer was a Confederate Soldier who lost his brother Bishop at the Battle of Shilo. Spencer purchased the farm in 1877 and worked it until his death in 1918.
Shady Walker is my Great, Great Grandmother and was Spencer's wife , such a cool name in hot Tennessee before air conditioning. She lived in her log cabin and raised her son Thomas.
My Great Grandfather was named Thomas Bishop Walker an elected Constable in the district. When he made arrests in 1899 to 1903 he would bring his subjects to Gainesboro's Court House and to the local judge Cordell Hull the future Secretary of State of the United States during World War 2 and a Nobel Peace prize winner. Thomas played his fiddle at Cordell Hulls wedding and at many of a local country clog dances. He died of complications of a broken leg when his horse bucked him off.
Sally Way Walker is my Great Grandmother and wife of Thomas she raised 8 children on the farm and was a Mid Wife to the local women when they delivered their children.
Bud Walker was my Great Uncle and oldest son of Thomas and Sally. Bud was the last of the Walkers that farmed and received his decades of training from Spencer and Thomas. He won the honor of farmer of the year in Jackson County in 1933. He worked hard and as one of my family members told me, " when I was a young boy you were really quiet when Bud napped on the front porch during lunch time, for if you woke him it ended your break" ,. " He ran off the front porch of the log cabin shouting , lets get to it boys". He died of a heart attack on a hot July day after plowing with his mule Tob.
Ann Walker was my Aunt and eldest daughter of Thomas and Sally Walker. Ann was the last Walker to live on the farm. She is in the Airbnb list of pictures, and is pictured with her white flower. Ann Walker's Farm House is also listed on Airbnb. Ann use to baby sit me. She was a kind woman and never married ; raised by settlers of the 1800's. She was accustomed to spring water , out houses , chewed twist tobacco and called barn dances. The grave yard is filled with old time flowers in the Spring . I do not keep the grave yard mowed as it will kill the flowers and in the Summer and Fall the grave yard can get over grown.
I have named the different camping sites after the many people who gathered for camping during our Solar Eclipse event. The Virginia site , Indiana Hoosiers site, Wall Street site named after two of New York Mayor Micheal Bloomberg's camping employees, Army Ranger site great for Hammock camping, Connecticut site for those that need electric power, Kentucky hollar field Site, Mississippi Field site, Ann Walker field and the lost Drone Saga site, and the classy Paris , France commons area a clean modern mobile home that was so appreciated by the young woman from Paris, France for its private showers and bathrooms.

If you are tired of huge volume, crowded, foot print sized assigned camping, then come and pitch your personal tent anywhere you desire on my farm. If you prefer the bottom land or field ; behind the yellow farmhouse ; by the lower spring or in the wooded lands. It is up to you! Tent camping only as we are not set up for RV camping. Four people per tent site. Eight dollars per person after four for larger groups.

We have fresh running potable city water available in the Commons Area as well as a faucet on the side of the barn. There is also spring water available during the rainy season but as always it is wise to filter or boil spring water. Fire starting kindling available.

A traveled fellow. A nice fellow. Husband and father. I have worked in the Oil and Gas exploration industry and am a Registered Nurse. These occupations have allowed me to travel and live in many different places, Texas, Oklahoma, Saudi Arabia, Indiana, Kentucky, San Diego, California; Los Angeles, California; Grants Pass, Oregon; Wallingford, Connecticut. When I worked at night in Saudi Arabia I would look up at the stars and wonder what was happening at the farm in Tennessee and dreamed of living there one day. Well I live here in Gainesboro, Tennessee on my Great , Great, Grandfathers settlement farm and love it. I think you will enjoy your stay here as well.

This is an enjoyable and inexpensive way to explore the upper cumberland area and the towns of Gainesboro, Cookeville and Celina. Cummins Falls and Dale Hollow Lake and Pontoon boating are fun activities enjoyed by many visitors to the Upper Cumberland Area.
