Það sem verður gert

Delhi is an amalgamation of different cultures from across India. From being the capital of the Mughal empire to the national capital of the current republic of India, Delhi has always attracted a diverse group of people. This walk will trace areas of Delhi wherein glimpses of this diversity and medieval, early modern immigration can be perceived. The route we will follow will visit Sujan Singh Park, The Ambassador Hotel, Khan Market and the Parsi cemetery. Sujan Singh Park is one of the first residential apartments of Delhi, where the stories of the residents are as interesting as its architecture. Khan Market, one of the most high-end markets in Delhi, was previously a refugee colony. Here, memories of the Partition of 1947 can still be experienced through the few families who still reside in the middle of the busy market. The walk through the Parsi cemetery provides a chilling experience: surrounded by a thick canopy of trees, bushes and flowering plants, the gloomy atmosphere is lit up by a sense of beauty.
This guided tour is suited for those keen to explore Delhi’s hidden, lesser-known sites and landmarks which are of tremendous historical and cultural significance.
Other things to note
No entry fee.
Paid parking available in Khan Market, charges to be borne by the participant.
Photography allowed.
Please wear comfortable shoes and carry water.

This was an interesting walk. Priya was fairly knowledgeable about the different aspects of this experience. Access to certain places as well as people definitely made it unique!

We had a splendid experience with Priya. Priya was kind enough to share with us all her research using personal accounts of people living in Sujan Singh Park area. We had a very interactive walk wherein everyone was encouraged to pitch in their own thoughts and knowledge. We learnt a lot about the history and architecture of the place. Overall, it was a fresh offering amongst the usual Delhi attractions.

Priya was an excellent walk leader who was able to weave together personal anecdotal accounts of the residents of the space in question to larger historical accounts. As a result, the walk was an enriching experience and quite unlike other experiences where you are prone to getting lost in history alone without being brought back to the present and the lived experience of heritage. This was also one of the very few heritage walks to deal with Modern Indian History, and Priya rose to that challenge well by making the idea of lived experiences central to the walk. Her walks are un-missable!
